What is bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (bHRT)?
- Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (bHRT), also referred to as natural hormone therapy, is a type of hormone replacement therapy that utilizes hormones derived from natural sources, such as yams or soy. These hormones are then compounded to mimic the molecular structure of the hormones produced by the human body, such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
The primary aim of bHRT is to restore hormonal balance and relieve symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances, including fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, muscle loss, low libido, mood swings, hot flashes (females), and night sweats (females).
Unlike traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which may incorporate synthetic or animal-derived hormones, bio-identical HRT exclusively employs hormones that are biologically identical to those naturally produced in the human body.
